Unlike regular towing calls for cars and trucks, RV vehicle calls require that the driver knows specific information and relays it to the towing company. If details are not communicated correctly, then the wrong emergency tow vehicle may be sent.

RV auto weight loads can change, depending on the vacation equipment that is brought and the number of passengers carried. Always remember to take a rough weight reading and account for the extra pounds of a full tank of gasoline. The tow truck sent to pick up the RV will depend on the total weight of the vehicle.

Get an Accurate Weight Reading to Prevent RV Vehicle Towing

There are several options available to help estimate the weight of a vehicle, including:

  • Making an approximation that includes the weight of passengers and their belongings
  • Visiting a truck stop with a scale during the first leg of a trip
  • Finding an open weigh station on the highway that allows RV and trailer towing vehicles

Using a weigh station is the most reliable method, but the ones at truck stops might be free. Once the mass of the RV is determined, the driver can let the roadside assistance program know or note it in a safe place.
