Auto Emergency
Auto emergencies can strike drivers whether they are heading to work or on long-distance trips across the country in their RV, 5th Wheel or Travel Trailer. How a driver deals with an auto emergency depends on whether or not he has a membership to an auto club, but there are steps a driver can take to prevent a roadside emergency in the first place.
Preventing an Auto Emergency
Drivers can take steps to reduce the possibility of an auto emergency, although there is no surefire way to prevent one, especially for drivers who own older vehicles. One of the most important ways to avoid an auto emergency is to keep the gas tank full. Fill it before you leave for a trip, and stop whenever the tank is at or just below half full. This is because there are certain regions where you could go a hundred miles or more without seeing a gas station. Getting stranded in the middle of nowhere makes roadside service and towing both problematic and time-consuming.
Drivers can also avoid the need for roadside service in an auto emergency by making sure the engine's fluids are full and new and that all of the filters have been recently changed prior to a big trip. Change the fuel filter and the oil filter, and replace all of the fluids. It's also a good idea to check the tires to ensure that they are properly filled and to address any low pressure as needed.
